How to Kill Dragons: Creative Worldbuilding

Task: Create 5 new aspects of a world. They can be a new race, trees, creatures, calendar and seasons, anything. But they have to be new and of your own design. Try to give a description, and what its purpose might be/how it fits into a world. (doesn’t have to be five but at least a few)

How to get Power

There is a large type of feline that generates a form of electricity. They are called the Grimeltrics.

There are paddle brushes that are used to gather the electricity so it can be refined for general use. Their power output can be increased by feeding them electric eels. The eels can grow up to 30 meters long and only the most skilled fishermen can catch them and survive. Special equipment is needed to withstand the voltage the eels give off when they feel threatened. The eels only live in freshwater.

The felines are as large as a house when full grown, with thick, fluffy coats that are jet-black and silky. There are eyes are large, round, and always ice blue. Their canines do not stop growing, so they have to chew on extremely dense material to keep them in check, otherwise their caretakers have to saw through them to keep them manageable. Their cubs are the size of a small pony, and can’t generate electricity until they reach their first heat. Their life expectancy is approximately 20 years, with a first heat and the age of 2 and occurring every other year until they reach 14. Once they stop producing electricity, they will die within two weeks. It takes about 8 of them to power a small city, depending on their age and output capacities.

What is the Weather like

A world without a tilt. There are no seasons, the weather consistent. The top and bottom of the world are always blanketed in ice, with glaciers threatening to spread towards the middle of the planet. There is a special branch of magic dedicated to keeping the ice from growing too far. Vast seas of freshwater are peppered between the poles and the gradient ranges as reservoirs for the melted ice from the mages’ work.

The equator is a blistering hot desert, where only nocturnal creatures can survive. This is where the precious metals and gemstones originate. There is a branch of magic dedicated to keep isolated oases thriving so that mining efforts can occur without everyone dying. Firestorms occur often as the air heats up quicker than it cools at night.

In the gradient ranges (spreading out from the equator and up or down to the poles) is where society lives and agriculture thrives. There are no sudden winter storms to destroy the crops, just as there is no spring to waken the world with new growth. The plants mature in their life cycle and once they harvest they fertilize the ground and can immediately start over.

How to Tell Time

A day lasts for 45 hours due to how slow the planet turns. It is split evenly in Day/Night except for the poles where it is always day.

A year is 300 days. There are 10 months with 30 days. A week is 6 days so there are 5 weeks in a month.

With how consistent the sun is moving across the sky, everyone possesses a sundial to keep track of the time of day. The moon also rotates consistently, so different features that are viewable with the naked eye are the tick points for time during the night.
